ECONOMICAL LINKS

The unique geographical location of the District enables development of different cross-border economic links. Finland is the major trade partner of Vyborg among 52 foreign countries as the trade coun In the export dominated production of:
  • timber-processing (74%),
  • machinebuilding (7,2%),
  • raw materials (10,3%).
The import consisted of:
  • machinery (30%),
  • foods and agricultural products (31%),
  • chemical production (10%)
    . There are over 700 participants of external economic relationships registered in the Vyborg District. The intensive transit cargo and passanger traffic enables development of such important businesses 213 joint ventures and firms with totally foreign capital as much as 36,200 bln roubles and $139.400 Mn operated in the District of Vyborg by January 1, 1997. Today 63% of them are Russian-Finnish firms.

    90% of export production was directed to Finland. In 1996 District`s joint ventures got $ 9,4 Mn of foreign investments. The staff of all Vyborg joint ventures is 12 480 in number. is constantly expanding its boundaries.
